David Lerch er ljósmyndari sem sérhæfir sig í norrænum dýralífs- og náttúruljósmyndum. Hann er fæddur árið 1998 og uppalinn í norðvesturhluta Sviss. Allt frá fyrstu ferð sinni til Norðurlandanna hefur hann unnið að umfangsmiklum ljósmyndaverkefnum í óbyggðum norðurslóða og starfar nú sem sjálfstætt starfandi dýralífs- og náttúruljósmyndari á norðurslóðum undir eigin merkjum, AylwynPhoto.

 Í fyrsta leiðangri sínum til Svalbarða, þegar hann var rétt rúmlega tvítugur, uppgötvaði hann djúpa tengingu og hrifningu á þessum afskekkta, nyrsta hluta Evrópu. Síðan þá hefur þessi harðneskjulegi og einstaki eyjaklasi á Norður-Íshafinu orðið þungamiðjan í ljósmyndaverkum hans. Starf Davids Lerch á norðurslóðum felst í myndatöku fyrir markaðssetningu ýmissa umhverfisvænna ferðaþjónustuaðila, samstarfi við staðbundin gallerí um sérstakar sýningar um dýralíf á norðurslóðum og einkum áframhaldandi vinnu við aðalverkefni hans um heimskautarefi sem nefnist „Augliti til auglitis við heimskautarefi“ og er til sýnis hér í sýningarrýminu.

Meginmarkmið Davids með dýralífsmyndatökum sínum er að brúa bilið milli manns og náttúru með því að komast í augnhæð við dýrið og skapa þannig nánd milli myndefnisins og áhorfandans. Einnig vill hann vekja athygli á viðkvæmni norðurslóða og nauðsynlegri vernd þeirra. Þessi sérstaka ljósmyndasýning fer með áhorfandann í ferðalag þar sem við fylgjumst með heimskautarefnum í heilt ár á túndrunni, frá fyrstu til síðustu sólargeisla. Áhorfandinn fylgir þessari forvitnu og lífseigu skepnu í hinu harðneskjulega og síbreytilega vetrarríki nyrst á heimskautasvæðinu, þar sem aðaláherslan er lögð á að afhjúpa heillandi eiginleika og oft falið líf þessara einstöku dýra.

David Lerch is a nordic wildlife photographer, born in 1998 and raised in north-western Switzerland. Since his first trip to the Nordics, he has been working on extensive photography projects in the Arctic wilderness and is now operating as a freelance wildlife photographer in the Arctic under his own freelance label, AylwynPhoto since 2020.

During his first expedition, which took him to Svalbard in his early 20s, he discovered a deep connection and fascination for this remote, northernmost part of Europe. Since then, the harsh, unique archipelago in the High Arctic has become the focus of his current photographic work.

David Lerch's work in the Arctic involves producing images for the marketing of various eco-tour operators, collaborating with local galleries for specific exhibitions about Arctic wildlife, and, in particular, continuing his main project on Arctic foxes called ‘Face to face with Arctic foxes’, which is exhibited here in the gallery.

The main goal of David's wildlife photography is to bridge the gap between humans and nature by getting at the animal's eye level and therefore creating a very direct kind of intimacy between the subject and its viewer. This is also especially intended to sensitise the audience to the high fragility and necessary protection of the Arctic regions, which otherwise appears very isolated during the daily life of the outside world.

This special photo exhibition takes you on a journey with the Arctic fox through a whole year in the tundra, from the first to the last sunlight, accompanying this curious survivor in the harsh, ever-changing realm of the High Arctic, with the main focus on revealing the fascinating traits and often hidden life of these unique animals.
